Rio Grande
There was this woman that lived by the Rio Grande [in New Mexico]
with her husband and her two children. One afternoon,
she saw her husband with another woman. She felt so hurt
and wanted to get even with him. She ran home, grabbed her kids,
took them to the river, and drowned them. Then she came to her
senses, and running to try to save her children, tripped and hit
her head on a rock which led to her death. Today, her soul wanders
the riverside looking for her babies. If you ever go to the Rio Grande
at night, you can hear this horrible scream. People say it's La Llorona
crying for her dead children. The cry is so scary that you will never
want to go near the river again.
